Girls do it sooner and more often

Reading this article, all I can say is, it was true in my case, only I started experimenting with alcohol and smoking in 1984.

As as for the assertion that "...girls may become addicted to nicotine faster than boys..." yeah, that's true too. While I hate the smell and all, I would still cut off my right arm for a cigarette sometimes.

What's my point? Only that this kind of thing isn't exactly a new phenomenon. Why do girls do that? I don't know. In my case I could say I was bored, curious...I'm not proud of getting stinky drunk when I was 14, but now I look at it as a learning experience. I swiped all the middle shelf stuff, so I knew what that was all about. I never even tried beer until I got to college!

"Middle Shelf Stuff"?

Enlighten me.

You know, not the most expensive stuff. Top shelf is the really pricey stuff that's, well, on the top shelf at a bar.

Actually, what I drank would probably be considered more on the cheap booze side. I developed quite a taste for apricot brandy for a while, sipped ever so elegantly from a 16 oz. Steelers glass from MickeyD's.

Luckily my first foray into smoking got me in so much trouble I didn't continue. Drinking, well, that's another story entirely! I think I had my first beer when I was 11 or 12 and it's been downhill since then (Then uphill after I met the Citizen). Although aside from breaking my own foot, I never caused any emotional or physical damage from drinking, never got in a car wreck, maybe missed only a day or two of work.

Oh, ok, that I get, but when you compared it to beer, I thought it was code for something else. Duh.

I didn't start drinking until my mid-20's (my father was a pastor), and when I started, I started with Guinness on tap. I've been a snob ever since.

Oy. I would blog about my early forays, but my parents read my blog, and I would prefer not to antagonize my father's blood pressure. I'm sure he has a reasonable clue as to what I was up to, but I don't think he needs to see it in black and white.

That said, I think part of my motivation was to change my image. Note: I didn't say IMPROVE my image.
