Damn The Spam

I'm a wee bit more sober right now. Seeing over 50 comment spams will do that to a person.

There I was, watching today's episode of Guiding Light online, and all these messages start popping up in my inbox, informing me of new comments on a blog entry.

People, I deleted over 30 and they just kept popping up. Finally I jut deleted the whole blog post.

Infuriating, to say the least. A major buzzkill!

Fooking spammers.

Oh...just an after dinner cocktail (a Cosmopolitan). Weee! What a buzz! Shut up. I haven't been feeling well and at least now I don't care that I feel like crap.

Anyhoo, so the phone rang and I picked it up and was all "Helloooo??"

Like the drunken fool I am...

...and it was the pastor of this church we started going to.

Haw haw hahahaha.....

Not exactly the best time to be asking me about church.

So he's going to come over Monday to talk to Husband and I about his church. Wait until I tell him that the church we left just happens to be pastored by one of his good friends.

Poop! Fan! Look out!

Staying Home

Not going to church today. Somehow Husband and I just aren't in the mood.

Speaking solely for myself, I think my attitude stems from leaving that last church, where our attendance was mandatory. Yes, mandatory, and I shan't say anymore because someone local may read this and then I'll cause another rash of shit to hit the fan.

Anyhoo, yeah, we're getting pretty lax when it comes to church.

Plus, Husband was up late watching Das Boot and wound up sleeping on the couch, so he'll probably be napping by early this afternoon.

Sometimes I Hate Owning A Home

The past two days have been nothing but a headache for Husband and me. Let's start with Thursday, shall we?

I ran the dishwasher, no biggie, and later that day unloaded the clean dishes. I noticed there was water still sitting at the bottom of the dishwasher, so I thought "Duh...maybe if I run it through a rinse cycle the water will drain."

And it did. All over my kitchen floor!

I called a repair place and was assured someone would be out that day (God bless them). Well, the repair guy could find no reason why it wasn't draining, but there was a gasket leaking, and he'd order a replacement, but I can still run the dishwasher.

"But your motor sounds like crap," he informed me.

"But...but...but it's only four years old! It's always sounded like that! It came with the house!"

"Well, it's run for that long, my advice is run it until it dies instead of replacing the motor."

Which now leads me to the stunning realization that the builders of this modular home don't necessarily use the high-end Kenmore appliances.

So yeah, there was that, and the cold shower I took Thursday night. I figured I'd used too much hot water while I did the laundry that day (but I'd mainly run cold water loads, getting all the winter coats washed up to pack away).

By yesterday, I said to Husband (who got a day off to take delivery of our super cool new television) "I'm not panicking, but there's no hot water."

Sure enough, bad element, he was able to fix it, all is well again, but we still didn't have hot water in time for me to shower last night, and I stink!

On the plus side, we now have hot water, a new TV, and my kitchen sink is clean (I was prepping for having to do dishes by hand, ya see).

I just hate it when all the little things pop up. This afternoon I'm going to sit on my kitchen floor and watch the dishwasher when I turn it on, as I'm still kind of sideways on that bastard. I told Husband, if it starts spewing out water again, I'm getting a new dishwasher!

All that goofy grinning...what was supposed to be some great romantic tale became something of a bore.

Well, fine, now Nik can get his tumor removed and hopefully take off his shirt.

Color Me Thrilled

Last week I went shopping and bought a pair of Levi's. Now, admittedly, I didn't try them on, but save my receipt. I just got around to trying those jeans on today.

They fit! They actually fit! They weren't even tight; there's room!

These are size 12. Now I know, to most that size would seem like a fata$$, but I haven't been able to squeeze myself into anything smaller than a 14 in Levi's.

As I put those jeans in my closet I thought about where I was a year ago, and I've got to tell you, for all the hell I went through with that surgery, the results as far as the weight loss and not having heartburn were well worth it.

And the thing is, even now I have that "always full" feeling. Seriously! I always feel like I've eaten a big meal, and I can't possibly eat anything else. Therefore...I'm still losing!! Weeee!!!

So look out all you high school alumni, I'm going to look fabulous! Eat your hearts out, punks!

Three Things To Ponder

I just got this e-mail:

Three things to ponder

1. Cows

2. The Constitution

3. The Ten Commandments

C O W S

Is it just me, or does anyone else find it amazing that during the mad cow epidemic our government could track a single cow, born in Canada almost three years ago, right to the stall where she slept in the state of Washington? And, they tracked her calves to their stalls. But they are unable to locate 11 million illegal aliens wandering around our country.

Maybe we should give each of them a cow.

T H E C O N S T I T U T I O N

They keep talking about drafting a Constitution for Iraq ... Why don't we just give them ours? It was written by a lot of really smart guys, it has worked for over 200 years, and we're not using it anymore.

T H E 1 0 C O M M A N D M E N T S

The real reason that we can't have the Ten Commandments posted in a courthouse is this:

You cannot post "Thou Shalt Not Steal," "Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery,"
and "Thou Shall Not Lie" in a building full of lawyers, judges and politicians...It creates a hostile work environment.

Health Update

A commenter asked how the younglings are doing, and the prognosis is: much better.

I took Son to the doc Friday and he was tested for strep, which he doesn't have. I felt like a real paranoid dumba$$, but after last year's dance with strep I wasn't taking any chances.

The doc took a listen to Daughter's lungs while we were there, and sure enough she's got fluid in her lungs. He prescribed an inhaler and frequent smacks on the back. We are, unfortunately, quite used to this procedure.

Anyway, so yeah, as of today (Sunday) things are on the upswing. We stayed home from church, because who wants to sit in church with a couple of kids that sound like they're barfing up a lung?

And! Now the SciFi channel is showing Doctor Who, so we watched that Friday night, and then BBC America has the Doctor on Saturday, so we were happy to just curl up and spend some time with David Tennant.

(Can I just say that I'm not at all happy about Martha leaving the Doctor?)

Hi-Ho, Hi-Ho...

...it's back to the doctor we go.

This time it's Son, who woke up with a sore throat and a low-grade fever.

SickKid.gif

As for Daughter, she had a temp of 101 when I left for the school board meeting, and at 3:00 A.M. she was up coughing. She felt really hot, although that effing temporal scan thermometer said she only had a temp of 99. I put a cold wash cloth on her forehead, dosed her with some Motrin, and this morning she seems to be doing better.

But now I'm getting it...and I'm tired from running around the house in the wee hours.

Husband slept through the whole thing...and is now up at his mother's.

***RANT ALERT***

Sometimes I get so fookin' tired of handling all of this! Husband got the effing day off, and he's running to his mom? WTF? It would be nice if, I don't know, I had him here to help out, someone else to worry with me, someone to take over for an hour so that maybe I could get some rest of my own.

Grrr.....

***

Anyway, so yeah. Maybe I'll take the kids out for a bite before I take Son to the doc. It's shaping up to be such a beautiful day.

Board Meeting

Yep, went to the board meeting tonight, and the best thing I can say about it is that it ended at eight oh five.

Oh, it wasn't that bad, I guess; isn't there some way to, I don't know, liven up the financial report?

*yawn*

On the plus side, I sat with someone I got to giggle with. We made smart arse remarks about the superintendents shoes and lack of pantyhose (keep your legs together, Lisa!) and I also commented to the person's husband that the local news reporter's bo0bies really are that big!

Wumbo!

Oh yeah, school business. Well, the district is going to get 10 new school buses; by the by, did you know that those beefmas only get like 5 to 6 miles to the gallon? Of diesel? Jinkies!

There was discussion, which was then tabled, about hiring a new principal at the middle school that will not be closing. As it turns out, I met the guy when the board went in to Executive Session, and he's a pretty nice guy...for all that he's a Democrat.

Oh, I kid. Seriously, he's a city councilman and a teacher, so he seems to know what he's doing. Nice guy, I sincerely hope he gets the job.

I'm tired, if I think of more later I'll update, but really, it was mostly uneventful.

Digging Up The Past

Last night Husband came home and started digging around in the basement. It would seem that a lot of people he works with know he used to be a CW reenactor, and one of his co-workers called Husband and asked if he could borrow some of Husband's gear for a presentation, which is what prompted the "Big Dig."

It was like....as soon as Husband opened his duffel bag full of his clothes, nostalgia hit.

"Ooooh, that stinks," Husband said.

But then again, one doesn't necessarily want to smell sweet or look brand new when one is portraying a battle-worn soldier.

Then Husband took his bayonet out of its scabbard and emptied his cartridge box. He sputtered over the caps he had to remove; he had a lot more in his pouch than he remembered. (Because, you know, no weapons in schools.)

"Let's go shoot!" I yelled.

"Dammit, woman, do you know how hard that gun is to clean?" Husband yelled back.

Then I said "Admit it, you miss it. You do! The fun, the battles, the tacticals..."

"Oh, maybe just a bit, but shoot, if you think finding a church to go to is hard, how difficult do you think finding a unit would be?"

See, the first time around, Husband was one of the founding members of the unit he portrayed (the 83rd PA, Co. K). But later in the evening he said:

"Do you really want to get back in?"

As if he too was giving it serious thought.

Wouldn't that be something? The kids would have so much fun...and the best thing is my corset fits again!!!

"Hell In A Handbasket"

That's how one of the parents here refers to the recent happenings in our beloved deteriorating school district.

Oh yes, the poopy is hitting the fan once again, and our merry band of NINCOMPOOPS are sitting on their thumbs, doing naught.

Let's start with: a high school junior who is not only stalking his ex-girlfriend but has threatened to kill his entire class.

Or how about the sexual assault on a school bus that involved preschool children?

Maybe you'd like to hear about the kid in Son's class (third grade, remember) who brought a knife to school. Yeah, he "forgot" he had his dad's knife in his pocket and was showing it off at lunch. The kid has been suspended for two weeks.

Let me tell you about just yesterday, when I picked Daughter up at school. I followed procedure -signing her out and all - and could have walked out of the building with her and no one would have noticed. The secretary noticed just as I was leaving the office ("Oh, is that your daughter?") and that was that. Never mind the other door out of the office that I could have used and not been seen at all.

Hmmm...perhaps you'd like to hear about the Kindergarten student who fell and bashed his head on the playground, came back into the building bleeding, and no one did anything. The child went home and complained that he was dizzy and sick to his stomach; apparently his teacher didn't notice all that blood?

Edison Local, you are really screwing the pooch, but then our high heel wearing, bleached out superintendent has no kids, so maybe she doesn't quite comprehend, I don't know, safety.

There's a school board meeting tonight, which for me is always good for a laugh. Really! It's like freaking vaudeville, what with the one board member who makes more faces than Jim Carrey.

Yeah, you band of assholes spend $12,000 of damn transportation software, but don't you dare worry about protecting the kids!

No sooner did I get back from my trip to Wal-Mart but my phone rang. It was the school calling to tell me that Daughter "just wasn't herself and has been coughing a lot" and could I come and pick her up?

I ran right back out the door and drove over to the school to get her, and as soon as I walked in I got condescending looks from the bitches women in the office.

Daughter was sobbing and kept saying "I wanna go to gym class!" but do you know what? That child fell asleep as soon as we hit the road, and is now passed out on the couch. She just won't give up, even when she's sick!

It's Those Ears...AGAIN!!

I'm slowly going mad. MAD I tell you!

At exactly 12:00 A.M. Daughter was up crying because her ear hurt. Well, sure it does, she has yet another ear infection, but she's on Omnicef, and usually her pain stops after two or three doses.

I gave her some Motrin and put a couple numbing drops in her ear (prescription drops!). So this morning, she's all "What? What?" and then tells me that her other ear is starting to hurt!

Folks, you know what this means...tubes. Like I've said before, the process itself isn't that bad, and it made Daughter feel better. Even having to put ear plugs in her baby ears for every bath became such a habit...but I'm telling you I despise those two hour long waits in the ENT doc's office. He's a smug bastard who acts like he farts rainbows...and if it was just me the wait wouldn't be an issue, but when it's a four year old? Forget it.

I know this isn't Daughter's fault, really, but I thought we'd be over all this ear stuff after the first round of tubes. I live in a fool's paradise, no?

Let Me Say This About That

After hearing Obama's comments about people who live in small PA towns, I can't help but wonder what my friends who still live in small PA towns think about those comments.

I have very good friends who "cling" to their guns - to hunt deer so they can have, you know, meat.

I have friends who "cling" to religion because that's their personal choice.

I also have family in PA who can't stand Obama, or any other candidate for that matter, and who probably won't vote in the primary because they don't like McCain. (Hello Keating Five?)

As for my thoughts about Obama....finally! Someone more popular than me who shoots his mouth off without thinking! Refreshing!

Am I offended? Slightly. I think Obama is a snotty boob who's out of touch with the people he claims he wants to help. For that matter, I hold the same opinion about Hillary and McCain. These people really don't know anything about the people they pander to in order to get votes. Do you think John McCain really gives a crap about Edison Local's money problems? Do you think Hillary cares about my husband and his job?

Wait...he's in the military, so no she doesn't, as those Clintons "loathe" the military.

Obama shot his mouth off and now he's got to deal with it. Welcome to my world, chump.

Myth vs. Reality

From Candy Kirby: Eight Sex Myths You Should Not Believe.

Okay, let me say this about that...

As for Myth #5, I love Husband more than anything, so explain that to me, huh?

Myth #7...again, I have two kids, so that myth really is a myth. (See Myth #5)

What's that like, anyway?

Vacation Planning

Husband posed the question: D.C. or Niagara Falls?

Son got pretty hopped up about going to Washington (heads up Llamas!), and I mentioned the Smithsonian and how my father went on and on about it.

"We can see Fonzie's leather jacket!" I exclaimed.

Of course my kids have no clue as to who Fonzie is.

There's Got To Be A Morning After

So, yeah, it's the day after The Fiah, and as I was walking the kids to the bus I remarked:

"It smells like the morning after a reenactment out here."

You know, that burnt, ash-y smell.

And what a view I have from my deck! Blackened earth!

Only You Can Prevent Forest Fires

Or: Big Excitement at the Groovy House today.

Husband was outside this afternoon and noticed someone on the neighboring piece of property (vacant, owned by someone in Akron) burning garbage on a breezy day like this has been, on dead grass.

Real smart.

Well, the fire got away from the dumba$$ and he drove away. I know because I was watching him with the binoculars.

Luckily neighbors of ours got the guy's license plate number and called 911. Husband, a former volunteer fireman and country boy, loaded a shovel into La Tahoe and proceeded to go over and try to keep things under control. Luckily two of the local fire companies showed up when they did.

Daughter and I walked to the end of our driveway to check progress and essentially wait for the bus to bring Son home, and my goodness, what a mess that was. I looked over and there was La Tahoe, right in the middle of the smoke and blackened grass, Husband not far behind.

Long story short, the deputy sheriff just pulled away from the house. Husband gave his statement, we told the deputy all we knew and saw...law and order every time, that's us.

Now we all smell like smoke, but we're all okay.

UPDATE: On our way home from taking our recyclables to the recycling center and grabbing some Chinese food, we noticed fire trucks back at the scene of the fire. One of the two campers that the property owner left there apparently must have sparked and is now a total loss.

Beer Blogging

Technically this isn't drunk blogging because I'm not drunk.

Just slightly buzzing. Shut up.

And yes, I know, it's the middle of the afternoon, but Husband got this beer, Smuttynose Beer from some visiting Guardsmen, and we tried it.

Hoppy. Very hoppy.

Sorry, I'm too used to my Bud Light.

Shut up.

By the way, anyone want a gently used Dora Talking Kitchen? I'm so sick of moving that damn thing to vacuum... Maybe Husband and I should take it out back and burn it! Damn piece of plastic annoying crap...

You Got The Blues?

For your consideration, an article from a local fish wrapper about open enrollment.

Here's a shocker:

Superintendents in the Blah Blah of Ohio, Edison Local, Blah Blah City and Hillary Clinton hosting city school districts did not return repeated phone messages seeking comment.

(All emphasis and literary license changes mine.)

Huge shock (not) that Edison Local didn't respond. Oh sure, we have old buildings out here, but the fact that so many kids out here are open enrolled and home schooled wouldn't have anything to do with (GASP!) crappy administration would it?

You know, yeah, there are some who may take umbrage at what's taught or how it's taught, but let's not ignore the high-heel-wearing elephant in the room.

For the record, I have considered open enrollment, no more so than after the recent teacher strike, and my choice NOT to is because my kids are thriving in Edison, the teachers (thus far - my kids are only 8 and 4) have been superb, and I have faith that somehow, some way, these issues will be resolved. It looks like there may be some light at the end of this old, crumbling tunnel.

Ho. Lee. CRAP!

I'm stunned. I mean, "stunned" doesn't even begin to describe just how....stunned I am!

Spike TV is broadcasting all six Star Wars movies!

I never thought I'd see the day.

We watched part of Episode 1 last night (I mean, really, we have the whole damn saga on DVD) and I had a moment of clarity: it sucks. I wasn't even all moistened at the thought of Ewan McGregor.

What?

I was just putting the finishing touches on a post about male rock fans being more prone to voting Republican, but there was a brain fart in there somewhere and I lost the whole damn thing.

I'd have to say that, as far as Husband goes, he pretty much fits this profile, although politically he considers himself more Independent.

I still haven't figured out the attraction of Pink Floyd. Seriously, does one need to be on acid to enjoy it? The only song I've ever really liked is "Run Like Hell" and that was only because when it came out I used to giggle about the DJ saying "hell" on the radio.

Gag, Pink Floyd? *urp*

It must be a guy thing; I much prefer Led Zeppelin and The Who.

Drama, Drama, Drama

So, have you seen High School Reunion?

I'm ashamed to say that I'm caught up in it, although I watch the episodes online while my kids are at school. It's like...really pathetic! Totally!

Anyhoo, so yeah, this group from a TX school (class of '87 - bleh) come together at a forkin' Hawaiian island estate for criminey sake and proceed to bitch, cry, yell, hook up...it's irritating.

Every week I sit here and say "What ever happened to getting together, getting loaded, and laughing your rears off at stupid jokes from twenty years ago?"

I know, right?

Because my twenty year reunion is coming up, this show makes me laugh. There is no way in hell I'd pack up and spend time at some secluded place with anyone I graduated with...or be just desperate enough to try and hook up with any of the guys.

Grody to the max!

None of that for this Groovester! No, I plan on planting myself down with numerous beers and watching the hilarity ensue.

Oh yeah, as for this show, next week is the final episode and they're going to have a prom! For the love of Pete, I mean my goodness! There'll be some surprise guest as well...my guess is the old principal. *snort* Because don't we all want to get our high school principal wasted?

(Folks I went to high school with will get a giggle out of that visual!)

Spoiler Alert!

If you happen to watch General Hospital, move along to the next post, because I'm about to divulge info.

As per the latest issue of Soap Opera Digest, Michael is going to take the bullet Claudia meant for Sonny.

Yeah, I knew that, but what I just found out today was that Michael is going to lapse into a coma, meaning that his portrayer, Dylan Cash, is leaving the show.

Dylan-Cash-profile.jpg

Bwahahahahaha....I don't like this little punk, but I have the feeling I'm going to like the recast even less, especially if it's some precocious little booger who wants to be just like Sonny. Give it a rest already.

I'm glad "real life" kids don't age as fast as soap kids, though. Shoot, a few months ago Spencer was an infant and now he looks older than Cameron!

Please Make It Stop

Am I ever glad I stopped watching Today. Tomorrow morning NKOTB will be appearing.

But I'm perplexed, didn't Jonathan Knight have a fear of being out in public? Apparently he's gotten over it?

And Donnie Wahlberg, he's the same age as me? WTF? Man, stick with acting, I'm telling you; your role in Band of Brothers was awesome.

No, I was never a fan of NKOTB. I was too old for that back then; I was still suffering from Durannie syndrome, but thankfully met a guy who eased me into Led Zeppelin, and I'm a much better person for it.

Out Of The Mouths Of Babes

Last night Daughter was looking through one of my old books from childhood (yes, I saved them), and she said:

"Mommy! Someone wrote in this book!"

"Oh, that's my name. I wrote it in there when I was a kid."

Daughter looks, ponders, and then:

"Mommy, your name was 'Mommy' when you were a kid?"

Remember?

Tonight, while the kids were brushing their teeth, I broke out in song and dance.

Yes, that's right, for some reason I was compelled to sing this:

"Brush your teeth, round and round, Circles small, gums and all, A small, soft toothbrush the round and round way, Will keep your teeth healthy and stop tooth decay, So brush very carefully, two times a day, Go round and round, Round and round."

Got that vision fixed in your brain yet???

Husband looked at me as if I'd just lost my marbles, and I said "Don't you remember? On Captain Kangaroo?"

He didn't, apparently.

I've been scouring these here Internets for a video of that song, but haven't been able to find anything (except the lyrics, that is) as definitive proof that that song indeed exists and I'm not loopy.
