Why is it that Rosie O'Donnell can get away with being an ass, but no one else can?

My brother worked for her on the Rosie O'Donnell show. Although he won an Emmy, he said she was a b*$*% to work for. And my brother is about as liberal as they come - he thinks we should just sent all poor people oodles and oodles of money...
