Keine Panik!
Husband took German classes back in school, and the other day had mentioned that if he was proficient in a language, he could make more $$$. Well, German is a language that apparently a lot of his fellow co-workers know, so he's chosen a Slavic language, but had mentioned that it wouldn't hurt if he brushed up on German.
Enter me, loving wife, who bought him German For Dummies. It comes with a nifty groovy CD, which I started listening to last night...just farting around.
I figure, hey, I've got a lot of German blood (from both sides of my family) and after 37 years maybe I should learn a bit of my ancestral language. That, and one of my SILs is German and wouldn't she plotz if I walked up to her and started blahblahblah?
And hey, I took four years of Spanish in high school, how hard can it be?
Pretty hard, since somehow I said those German phrases with a faint Spanish accent.
Ooof.
I also bought a French book. (Rosetta Stone, even used on eBay, is pretty pricey.) Husband's family has thick French roots (hence our French last name), and what better to teach my kids than the two main languages of their heritage!
Somehow I think I may have to get those Muzzy tapes.
Why not teach my kids Spanish? Oh, it would be easy, especially since one of our family friends is practically fluent in the language, but I refuse to teach my kids Spanish for the same reason Husband refuses to learn any of those Middle Eastern languages. Nope. Not gonna do it.
Auf Wiedersehen!
