As a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, I attended a wreath-laying this past Sunday at the Army of Northern Virginia tumulus here in New Orleans in honor of the January birthdays of Lee and Jackson and as always it was very poignant. Afterward, we gathered at a lodge for speeches, a presentation on Jackson, and the singing of "Dixie" (my favorite song. Refreshments and fellowship with other Confederate descendants followed. The pride that we felt (and feel) is indescribable. I recall the late Brian Pohanka's remark that, "Man for man, the Army of Northern Virginia was the finest ever assembled on American soil." I concur.
