He's got the blues
The first day of school is two weeks from today, and Son announced last night that he really doesn't want to go back.
Show me any kid who actually wants to go back to school....but how do I handle it?
He says he gets bored at school; I tell him he'd be bored sitting around here with me. He says he has to do too much work at school; I tell him if I homeschooled him he'd have to do work too. He tells me there's one kid he just doesn't like and doesn't want to be in class with.
Well, on that one, Husband and I both told him that there's always going to be some jerk that he's got to deal with. That kind of thing never goes away.
But what else can I do? What else should I say?
This is all new territory for me!! And he's only going into second grade!

Do you think he really feels that way, or that he's just saying that because it's not "cool" to want to go to school?
My 14-year old nephew said he actually wanted to go to school this fall. It's his first year of high school though, and he's on the football team!
Posted by: junebee at August 15, 2006 03:11 PMI think he says this because 1) he just got back from a week with my mother; 2) he's had to do nothing but goof off, and who wants to have bedtimes, homework, etc?
He says he wants to try second grade for a week and then decide. I told him he'd better stick it out for the whole school year before he makes up his mind.
I don't think he realized that homeschooling will be just as much work.

If your child has an issue with another person the school will keep them separated. My son drove another child into mischief and his mother asked that they be separated and they were never again together, for the next four years. Of course my lovely son just found someone else to talk with! My two children are just plain tired of all the homework that is piled on them so school isn't up there on their top ten want to do lists! They love the social part but not too crazy with how the teachers act but then again it's more like how the teachers react to my kids that they don't like! Can't wait for college.
Posted by: LeeAnn at August 15, 2006 06:58 PMFor the first time, I requested which teacher I wanted Son to have. That, at least, is something I can count on.
As for the kid he doesn't like, well, it's a girl, and she can be a bit...um...chatty. Son said that this girl always got the whole class into trouble.
I don't know, we'll have to wait and see, but I heard this girl needs some discipline, so maybe she'll get put with the other teacher.
