Gimme Money

This morning, Daughter and I made a Wal-Mart run. No big deal there, except that this morning I saw a car with its lights on, so I stopped at customer service before I did anything to report the license plate number and what not.

Again, nothing earth shaking.

So Daughter and I are checking out, and a lady comes into line behind us, and as she's waiting she starts chatting with Daughter, remarking about how cute Daughter is, how pretty her blonde curls are, stuff like that.

(Yes, thank you, Daughter is quite pretty.)

I think nothing of it until this woman, a complete stranger, asks if she can give Daughter three dollars. Stunned, I had no response, and there Daughter sat with three dollars in her hand.

(Hey, if you're handing out cash, make it more than three bucks, huh?)

A charitable gesture? Maybe that woman thought I was a total skeez alkie because I was buying about a half dozen bottles of wine? (Which are for next week, thankew.) Cosmic repayment for reporting the car with its lights on?

I have no idea, but we're going to give that three bucks to charity.

That's just weird. How would she have known anyway? Maybe she was lookin' for a wine handout? Who knows with us alcoholics!

I don't know, but it was pretty unsettling.
