Clue Me In

So, yeah, I watched a bit of VH1's "100 Greatest Songs of the 80's" (which named Bon Jovi's "Living on a Prayer" #1. WTF???)

Anyway, "London Calling" made the list, and it was stated that someone was arrested in London for humming the lyrics in a taxi. Yeah, something about terrorism?

Hey, what the piss? Okay, maybe I'm not as cerebral as some and don't see the hidden meaning in the lyrics, but really, terrorism?

Someone clue me in as to why lyrics that are over 20 years old can't be sung now.

"London calling to the faraway towns
Now war is declared - and battle come down
London calling to the underworld
Come out of the cupboard, you boys and girls
London calling, now don't look to us
Phoney Beatlemania has bitten the dust
London calling, see we ain't got no swing
'Cept for the reign of that truncheon thing

CHORUS
The ice age is coming, the sun's zooming in
Meltdown expected, the wheat is growing thin
Engines stop running, but I have no fear
Cause London is burning and I, I live by the river

London calling to the imitation zone
Forget it, brother, you can go at it alone
London calling to the zombies of death
Quit holding out - and draw another breath
London calling - and I don't wanna shout
But while we were talking I saw you nodding out
London calling, see we ain't got no hide
Except for that one with the yellowy eyes

CHORUS x2
The ice age is coming, the sun's zooming in
Engines stop running, the wheat is growing thin
A nuclear error, but I have no fear
Cause London is drowning and I, I live by the river

Now get this
London calling, yes, I was there, too
An' you know what they said? Well, some of it was true!
London calling at the top of the dial
And after all this, won't you give me a smile?
London Calling

I never felt so much alike, like-a, like-a..."

Thank you for watching the end of that show....loved the music from the 80's but you're right I sure didn't think Living on a Prayer was the best song of that decade. And how singing London Calling is enough to get you arrested for terrorism....if I was singing that song or any song for that matter I should be arrested for disturping the peace!

Terrorism? That is a stretch. I could see humming this song as a form of torture - depending upon how badly the person hummed this song...

Well, now I could see "Rock the Casbah" ("Send the bombs between the minarets down the Casbah way..")

But "London Calling"???
